Riley G. is a high school junior in California and the founder of Rainbow Pack and Just Start the Conversation.
In the 5th grade, after learning that many students were falling behind and often dropping out of school due to a lack of the most basic school supplies, Riley started Rainbow Pack. Rainbow Pack helps to improve the self-esteem and interest in learning in elementary school students. They do this by providing elementary school students currently experiencing some degree of poverty with backpacks full of grade appropriate homework supplies.
After growing and speaking about Rainbow Pack for 5 years Riley recognized another need. The need for people of all ages to be inspired to share their ideas and take that first step towards making the world a better place. So she started Just Start The Conversation, which is a platform that encourages people to talk about and act on the things they care about with the goal of creating positive change or action.
Riley has spoken to students at several schools about both Rainbow Pack and Just Start The Conversation. She has also worked with My Name My Story Social Entrepreneurship Camp for the last 3 years as a volunteer and keynote speaker. Riley has been recognized as a Build-A-Bear Huggable Hero, received the Daily Points of Light award, been honored by the LA City Council, been a We Are Family Foundation Global Teen leader, a Nickelodeon HALO award honoree, a Diller Tikkun Olam Award recipient and a Gloria Barron Prize winner. She has also been featured on news programs on CNN and ABC. Additionally, she serves on the Youth Advisory Board for Harvard Graduate School of Education’s project, Making Caring Common, and is a reporter for the newest project from Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation, Channel Kindess.
When Riley isn't working on these two projects she loves to belt out tunes as she does her homework and play guitar. She can also be found writing, behind her camera, and soon a microphone as she will begin a podcast as well.
